Instructions for Visa Application

The following documents should be submitted when applying for Chinese visa:

1. Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity and available blank pages for visa;

2. One properly completed visa application form, which could be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in person, by fax or by mail with a self-addressed and sufficiently stamped envelope, or be downloaded from the following website: www.china-embassy.is.

3. A recent passport-size photo affixed to the visa application form;

4. Relevant documents for different types of visa:

1) for business "F" visa: an official invitation from the competent Chinese government departments, companies or institutions that are authorized to request the Embassy to issue a visa.

2) for tourist/family-visit "L" visa: a confirmation letter from a Chinese travel agency, or an invitation letter from a relative in China. Please notice that the Embassy does not issue individual visa for tourists to Tibet. All applicants traveling to Tibet need to contact your local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group visa of no less than 5 people from the Tourist Bureau of Tibet at Fax: 0086-891-34632 or 0086-891-35588, Lhasa, Tibet, China.

3) for student "X" visa: A. Foreign Student Visa Application Form "JW201" or "JW202" issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education. B. an enrollment letter from the receiving university in China.

4) for employment/work "Z" visa: A. an Employment License issued by the Chinese Labour Ministry. For applicants to be working in an academic institution, a confirmation issued by the Chinese Foreign Experts' Bureau. B. an official invitation issued by a Chinese government agency.

5) for transit "G" visa: A. a valid visa of the country of destination; B. an air ticket showing transit through China.

6) for journalist's "J-1" or "J-2" Visa, please first contact the Press Office of the Embassy at Tel.(354) 5526751.

7) for Crew Members of unscheduled flight of private aircrafts or vessels, please first apply with competent Chinese authorites for landing/docking permit.

8) for group visa, which is issued to tourist group of five people or above planning to enter and leave China at the same time and via the same airport or border-crossing: A. an invitation letter from a Chinese travel agency; B. an authorized group visa number given by the Chinese travel agency; C. copies of the information pages of the applicants' passport; D. three properly completed group visa forms, which could be obtained from the Chinese travel agency or the Embassy.

5. Other documents deemed necessary by the Visa Officer.

Visa processing takes 5 working days. For special cases, rush service is provided.The rush service fees are rated as following:

For nationals from other countries, the normal visa fee is 3000 KR.

Notice: The Embassy does not accept credit card. Please make payment by cash or checks.

All requirements listed above are subject to change without notice at the discretion and interpretation of the Embassy.

Application for Group Visa

1.Groups of 5 persons or above planning to travel together may apply for a group visa. A group visa affixed to the "List of Tourist Group" is issued for the convenience of the tourists and organizers in passing through the Chinese border check-points.

2.The group organizer is required to fill in the "List of Tourist Group" in triplicate. Names, dates of birth, passport numbers etc. should be printed clearly and accurately. The serial number assigned to each member of the group in the list should also be marked on the cover of each passport.

3. The group organizer is required to collect all the passports of the members or photo copies of the main pages of their passports , visa fees and the confirmation fax from the China International Travel Service (CITS) in Beijing and send them to this office well in advance of the departure.

4.All members of the group are required to enter and exit China at the same time and via the same port. Should there be any member who will not enter or exit China at the same time, she/he must apply for an individual visa.

5. No photos are required as the members of the group do not have to fill out visa application forms.

6.The group visa fee is 800 Kr per person.

7. Visa processing takes 5 working days. For special cases, rush service is provided. The rush service fee is as follows:
